Oh My Ears Festival

Julia has been invited to perform at the Oh My Ears New Music Festival with her solo project Silent G. Silent G blends bass clarinet playing with electroacoustic sounds and pairs classical music with genres like techno, funk, industrial EDM, and heavy metal. 

In her Oh My Ears set, Julia will premiere Dameun Strange’s work for Silent G: “Empires Fall”.  This piece is an active criticism of America’s imperialism, industrialism, and late stage capitalism – claiming that these elements of the American experience will lead to our downfall, specifically at the hands of Donald Trump. Incorporating theatrical elements, rhythmic ideas from African folk music (an ancestor of techno), and expressing the dread and frustration many Americans feel in 2026, this piece will stretch Julia’s abilities as a musical storyteller and invite audiences to reflect on their own experience with the American Empire. 

Julia will follow her set with a sonic meditation by Pauline Oliveiros, using deep listening to demonstrate that compassion and empathy are what can save us all from America’s fall.
